Jaisalmer and Jaisalmer Fort Tour Overview

Jaisalmer, often referred to as the "Golden City" of India, is a mesmerizing destination located in the western state of Rajasthan. Known for its stunning yellow sandstone architecture, vast desert landscapes, and rich history, Jaisalmer is a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers. Here’s a closer look at what makes Jaisalmer so unique: Golden Fort: Also known as Sonar Quila, the Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest fully preserved fortified cities in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal, it’s made of yellow sandstone, giving it a golden hue that glows in the sun, especially at sunset. Living Fort: Unlike many forts, Jaisalmer Fort is a "living fort," meaning that people still reside within its walls. There are numerous havelis (traditional mansions), temples, restaurants, and shops inside, giving it a vibrant, lived-in feel.
